Jõhn~s October 9

Last night, after settling in to our little pousada room we had dinner at a seafood place. We had a little barbecue feast, much more than we could eat, cooked on our table on the beach while the waves rolled in. The wind off the water made for good dinner entertainment as it was a challenge for us and our waiter to keep everything down on the table at once.
We had a good sleep and made our own breakfast--the first meal we´ve prepared in nearly a week (seems hard to believe we haven´t been away a week yet). Then we set out on a hike to one of the 100 beaches on the island.
We´re not regular outdoorspeople, so we were proud of ourselves after a three hour trek through forest and jungle, up and down some pretty steep slopes, hearing--but not seeing--lots of birds.
Again, the journey was rewarded with a fabulous afternoon on a little beach. The water wasn´t balmy, but it wasn´t like the icy part of the Atlantic we´re used to. It was crystal clear so you could see the smallish fish that seemed to follow your feet wherever you walked. And of course the setting was gorgeous. I think Rhia´s uploading pictures as I write. We hired a little boat to get us back to the main town where we´re staying.
Tomorrow we´ll probably take a multi-beach boat tour. Sounds like a good plan for a Wednesday.

Hi Rhia & John, you are very good reporters! It's great knowing your impressions and pictures of Rio. I'll be following your grand tramp of South America. Take care. Renata

You can see how clear the water is in the pics... incredible. And that barbecue meal looks absolutely scrumptious. I wish that was in front of me right now!
